The 1851 Trust is the affiliate charity of Land Rover BAR, the British America’s Cup Team. The Trust works to enable, engage and encourage young people from a wide demographic to:
• Experience sailing and give them options to continue in the sport
• Understand the career choices and wider opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM)
• Consider the environment and act sustainably
The 1851 Trust runs sailing and education programmes to enable, engage and encourage young people to broaden their horizons and grasp new opportunities.
Our Patrons are HRH The Duchess of Cambridge, herself a keen sailor, and four-times Olympic gold medal winning sailor Sir Ben Ainslie.
UKSA work hard to ensure their youth development and maritime training courses benefit the widest possible range of people. Their charitable status is vital because it enables them to deliver so much more than training and certification alone. The centre provides a unique environment and transformational opportunities for everyone, focusing on both work skills and life skills, using the water as the catalyst for positive change; over 9,000 young people are welcomed through the doors every year.
Our vision is that everyone in England, regardless of age, background or ability, feels able to take part in sport or activity. Some might be fit and talented, but others won’t be so confident.
In order to create a world-class community sports structure we need to invest in sport at every level and that is why we fund hundreds of different projects every year.
